In today’s society we are bombarded with so many different terms when it comes to caring for the elderly. You may have heard long-term care, skilled nursing facility, assisted living, residential care, independent living, home plus, memory care and more. When you begin the search to find the right level of care for your loved one, it can be confusing and overwhelming.
One of our staff members was recently at a local softball game and while visiting with a friend the conversation came up that her parents were going to need to move into some type of care setting. Her friend had already assumed that her parents wouldn’t qualify for assisted living because she was under the impression that assisted living was only for people that were still completely independent. Unfortunately, this is a common myth about assisted living.
The truth is we can provide several levels of care, including assisting with dressing, toileting, bathing, transfers, ambulation, and medications, as well as 24-hour nursing supervision. Assisted living can be for those who are more independent and may even still drive, but we are also now able to provide a lot more assistance.
You may have also been led to believe that the bigger corporate assisted living chains provide better care. At Morningstar Care Homes we are owned by an individual Kansas resident, Scott Schultz. Scott is active in the operations of his facilities, visits them almost weekly and knows our residents by name. This is not the case with a larger chain, where the owner/CEO never steps foot into the facilities and only sends regional directors around to visit on a quarterly basis. If you are beginning the search in finding the right setting for your loved one, be sure to stop by one of Morningstar Care Homes in Neodesha, Fredonia, Baldwin City or Ottawa, Kansas and see if we can provide the care you’re looking for!
